If anybody every asked me what my lifelong dream is, it would to own a French chateau, and for a lucky couple from Australia my dream has come true. Karina and Craig Waters are a couple of Aussies that bought a actual 17th century chateau. Now, the chateau that they bought was abandoned, and crumbling. Goal of the new owners is to rebuild the chateau to its former glory, little by little, and to document the entire process on a blog.
Chateau de Gudanes – old French chateau being rebuilt by an Australian couple
You can read about the Chateau de Gudanes project on their official web page, but the short gist of the story is this. An Australian couple got in their heads that they can buy and old abandoned and crumbling chateau and rebuilt it, restore their former glory. I’ve read up on this chateau a little bit, and the structure that can be seen on the photo down below is actually just the 17th century rebuild of an even older structure that existed in this place since 12th century.
I have to say that I really admire the couples courage and determination. Something like this is giving me ideas of wanting to buy my own abandoned chateau and restore its former glory. Sadly my current financial situation doesn’t allow me to drop a few hundreds of thousands of euros, let alone a few millions of euros that this endeavour cost Karina and Craig. You can actually book a stay at the now half-finished chateau, so hurry on to their website to checkout the full story and their current progress on restoring the chateau to its former glory.
